The passion fruit is one of the fruits of the different species of Passionflora. Our READY TO EAT passion fruit, especially cultivated for us in Colombia, has a fresh taste and distinctive aroma. This round shape variety with a dark purple coloured shell is a kind of berry with a juicy, seed-filled interior. The small tiny black seeds are edible and contained in a gelatin-like transparent pulp. To eat the fruit, just cut it in half and scoop out the pulp and seeds with a teaspoon.
Do not judge this fruit by it appearance. When perfectly round and bright purple the fruit might not be completely ripe and its taste can be very sour. Fruits with a wrinkled surface and intense purple dark colour are actually more flavourful. That is, its taste is sweeter and its aromatic fragrance more intense. This refreshing tropical fruit is nutritionally rich. Apart from containing high levels of dietary fibre, it is also a very good source of nutritional vitamins like C and A, and essential minerals like Phosphorus, Magnesium and potassium.
The unique taste of the physalis is a harmonized combination of sweet and tangy flavours. The small golden berry is enclosed in a papery husk which varies in colour from green to light brown. The husk is not edible but it helps to protect the berry and prolongs its shelf life.

Its shell is hard and even when ripened it does not wrinkle. The fruit has a soft padding on the interior to protect the seeds which are surrounded by transparent jelly-liked pulp. The numerous black seeds are edible though they are slightly crunchy and hard.
